STUDENTS UNION GOVERNMENT
UNIVERSITY OF NIGERIA, NSUKKA
HALL LEVY SAGA
Fundamental
Greetings great lions and lionesses. Sequel to our last broadcast in
respect to the purported increase in hall levies where students were
advised to hold on payment until the Students Union have been properly
briefed on the matter. Following our immediate mobilization and action
on the aforementioned and after our dialogue with the Dean of Students
today, we are happy to bring you the following
clarifications/information.
1. Hall levies still remain
the same #2,100. The #5,000 that was purportedly added to the hall
levies are for 2 bedsheets and pillow cases as well as a mackintosh.
However, it is not compulsory for students to purchase the
aforementioned from the school as students are at liberty to purchase
these items elsewhere at their discretion. But note, *NO* student will
be registered in the respective halls without providing the above items.
2.
The students union was properly briefed on the reason for the recent
development as it regards the mackintosh as well as the bed sheets. We
must recall that overtime, the issue of bed bugs in our hostels has
become a recurring issue. Thus, the introduction of the use of
mackintosh is in the best interest of the students as it will protect
the foam from bedbugs as well as prevent the student from being attacked
by these unfriendly insects.
3. Members of the
Students’ Union led by the President, Comrade Chimezie Fortunatus,
inspected the mackintosh and the bedsheets being sold and discovered
they were actually of very high quality. Hence, students who can afford
it are encouraged to pay and get theirs at their respective halls of
residence, otherwise can go and procure theirs from wherever before
signing into the hostel.
4. In a bid to ensure that our
dear students live in the most comfortable and habitable conditions,
the Students Affairs department under the leadership of the Dean of
Students, Prof. Edwin Omeje has begun serious sanitation exercises in
the various hostels as well as some renovations where necessary.
5.
Students are advised to organize themselves in an orderly manner and
report any action(s) that contravenes the already stated.
From The Dean of Students Affairs
In The Meeting Some of the *JCB* Excos had we the Dean today. He highlighted the Following:
1. All Bermuda rooms in females hostels are still available that ladies should keep trying.
2.
If you paid someone in ICT to get *bedspace* illegally your name has
been noted and you will not get hostel in this school in the next five
years.
3.
Nobody is permitted to sell his or her bed space, if you see anyone
doing that you should report to his office and the person will loss the
bedspace automatically.
4. Construction of a new hostel that will contain 12,000 students will commence soon.
5.
Buy your own bedsheets and Macintosh or buy from the school. The choice
is yours but you will present it before you do your hostel Clearance
