History was made as
Traditional Rulers from the three autonomous communities of Nsukka
decorated
the Pro- Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, University of
Nigeria, Chief Micheal Olorunfemi with a Chieftaincy title of ''Obata Obie 1 of
Nsukka Community.
This laudable
gesture which took place at Ikenga hotel during the reception ceremony of the
Pro-Chancellor organized by Nsukka Community Youth in appreciation of the
pro-chancellors' good work to the youth and entire community.
The Chairperson
planning committee of the event, Dr Aaron Agbo said that as humans, love and
the understanding that all Nigerians are one is paramount for Nigeria, to
enable her defeat the ugly trend of violence and bickering that is trying to tear
the Nation apart.
Dr Agbo said that
Nsukka community has seized the opportunity to demonstrate love and oneness to
the Pro-Chancellor; Chief Micheal Olorunfemi though from Yoruba tribe and
language is now one of them through his chieftaincy title.
He revealed that the
Pro-Chancellor's humanitarian attitude and zeal to develop the University has
made him direct the university administration to re-invest all his allowances
into the development of the University which is an uncommon gesture in the present-day
world that is filled with greed and quest for wealth.
He also commended
the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Benjamin Ozumba for his openness and brotherly
relationship with the various sections of the community that has remained
unequalled since the history of the University.
He extolled Prof.
Ozumba's eagerness towards the development of Nsukka which he has demonstrated
via his contribution to the construction of the Odenigwe Umunkaka road, his
plans towards the construction of Hilltop road and his idea of establishing an
ICT Park that would further provide employment for the teaming youth of Nsukka.
The Pro-Chancellor,
UNN, Chief Micheal Olorunfemi appreciated the Igwes and the Nsukka community
for honouring him. He said it was an unexpected gesture which has portrayed the
beauty of Nigeria through diversity of language and humanity.
He emphasized that
UNN has placed Nsukka in the world map and Nsukka has exceeded every Eastern
town because of the University of Nigeria. He echoed that, it is his dream and that of the
Council members to make UNN the leading University in the world. He encouraged
everyone to live at the center of Gods' word.
