University management
The University of Nigeria Secondary School
Nsukka, has won three bronze medals in its maiden outing at the just concluded
annual American Mathematical Competition organized by The Mathematical
Association of America (MAA)
The competition,
which had different categories included, American Mathematical Contest 8 (AMC
8) for JSS2 and below; AMC 10 for SS1 and below and AMC 12 for SS3 and below;
and the bronze medals won by the school were under AMC8 and AMC10
The Chairman Board
of Governors of University Secondary School Nuskka, Prof. Elsie Umeano, in her
speech, stated that out of the 7 students that represented the school in the
competition, 3 students- Ugwuishiwu Chinazo, Eze Chizitere and Odigbo Chukwuka
won bronze medals each for the school.

The Deputy
Vice-Chancellor Administration, Prof. Charles Igwe, who represented the
Vice-Chancellor, in his response, appreciated the students and the management
team for their efforts in producing great mathematicians. “UNN has become a
centre of excellence in mathematics”, Prof. Igwe said while trying to recall
that not quite long ago, the administration received Mathematics champions from
the University Primary school and also from the undergraduate students of
Mathematics Department respectively.

that “the key to development in this country is based on mathematics and basic
sciences”.
Prof. Igwe went
further to encourage the youngsters to be associated with the University's Roar
Hub, which provides a platform for maximizing talents and for moulding brighter
next generation of entrepreneurs. “You are not too young to develop” he said.
The Director,
Directorate for International Collaborations, Prof Kenneth Ofokansi, in his
remark, said that he felt gratified to know that University of Nigeria
Secondary school Nsukka had returned to its golry. He congratulated the
Chairman Board of Governors, Prof Umeano and the Acting principal Mr Okafor for
turning the school around for the better.
“if we can get the
best here, we will not need to send our children outside Nsukka for secondary
education”, Prof Ofokansi said while encouraging himself and other parents to
look inwards rather than sending their children away in search of quality
education.
