The United Nations
International Children's Education Fund (UNICEF) is set to partner with the
University of Nigeria to
end child poverty in Nigeria.
Disclosing this in t
he conference room of the Vice-Chancellor, Dr Ibrahim Conteh, who is the Chief
of Field Office UNICEF said that the organization intends to establish
Postgraduate programs on social policy in Nigerian universities using the
University of Nigeria as its starting point. He added that UNICEF was moving
away from its usual provision of boreholes and other social services to
generating evidence that would help governments to end child poverty.
The Vice-Chancellor,
Prof. Benjamin Ozumba while thanking the UNICEF team for their efforts and hard
work also acknowledged Prof. Chike Ofuebe who is the Head of Department Public Administration and Local Government
for his role in bringing the collaboration to the university. Prof. Ozumba also
promised UNICEF that offices would be set up for them to set their base and use
UNN as a liaison to other universities.
